Psychological Medicine
These sessions are ideal for people experiencing psychological distress and want to process difficult emotions.
These sessions can help if you are experiencing anxiety, depression, grief or insomnia.
Psychotherapy can also be useful when you are going through a significant transition - becoming a new parent, relationship breakdown, job loss or new job role as examples.
Dr Chapeyama will tailor sessions to the individual using evidence-based therapies including EMDR therapy, CBT (cognitive behaviour therapy), ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy), IPT (interpersonal therapy) and Mindfulness.
As a GP psychotherapist, Dr Chapeyama brings a unique approach to these sessions having completed extended mental health training that allows her patients to access Medicare rebates under a Mental Health treatment plan.
GP psychotherapists are also known as Psychological medicine practitioners or GP therapists – it is a blend of extended GP skills with therapy / counselling with the added benefit of being able to prescribe medication where appropriate.
Dr Chapeyama is NOT a Psychologist nor a Psychiatrist but offers a style and management of whole person care unique to how specialist general practitioners are trained in Australia.
In complex presentations and whenever requested Dr Chapeyama will refer to other treating health professionals as appropriate.
Further information about the differences between psychological medicine practitioners, psychologists and psychiatrists can be found via the Australian Society for Psychological Medicine: Read More
